New Years.....Resolutions? Or not??

With the new year looming just off in the distance....my thoughts turn to resolutions. Do you make resolutions, or rather the question should be, do you keep them?

Some people vow to not make resolutions, but where is the fun in that!?!

Well, myself, I like to make resolutions, and no, I am not making mine about eating healthier and going to the gym. Although truth be told, a trip to the gym probably couldn't hurt. No, my resolutions have to deal with art.. the making of it, the showing of it, and just plain pleasure of sharing it with other people.

Art to me.. and that's Art with a capitol "A", isn't just what you see in a gallery or museum. It's not something only "serious" artists do. Art permeates all areas of our lives, locally and globally. Because that video game you are hooked on, "sweet", was designed by an artist; the chair you sit in to watch your favorite TV shows, mine are Big Bang Theory and the Millers, or that hoodie you just can't take off, an artist of some type had their hand in creating it.

So for your new years resolutions for 2014, resolve to notice the Art in your lives!
You'll be glad you did! And this one is easy to keep.

Happy New Years!!

Happy Snow Day Everyone! Shop Homework Update

December 10th- Snow Day!

Homework update:
Elements of Art: the new cycle starts tomorrow, and your shop cycle homework is due on the first day of class. What you say, shop homework??? Yes, remember your assignment was to purchase a sketch book if you had not already done so. For those of you who already have them, well you are all set. Just remember to bring them to class.

Drawing I: your assignment was to complete one drawing of your choice in your sketchbook. It is due the first day of class.

2D Design: your assignment due today has been extended until January 8 th at the end of the period. Next cycle your project will be themed, "Dream or Nightmare?".

Digital Photography: your assignment due today has been extended until January 10th. Please see my posting on Google+, for the new details of the project which includes homework over the shop cycle. Our next project will be a multimedia research project on a photographer of your choice. We will be working with Mr. D'Agostino, who will be showing up how to use various resources for research. There is more to research than, Googling something.

Drawing II: as only half of you finished the project this cycle because of the changes that were made, we will spend the first class session back in academics finishing them up. Our next assignment will be working with a distorted grid. Your assignment over the shop cycle will be to gather a portrait photograph or two of someone you would like to draw. It does not have to be a self-portrait.

3D Design: our next project will be inspired by the artwork of Joseph Cornell. Your assignment over the shop cycle will be to do an internet search on him and to begin to collect the random and odd bits of found objects for your own Joseph Cornell inspired artwork.
